In his book, James introduces 3 layers of behavior change:
a. Outcome Change: This refers to changing the result or the goal we want to achieve.
b. Process Change: Process change focuses on the systems and habits we employ to reach our desired outcome.
c. Identity Change: The most profound level of behavior change involves transforming our beliefs, self-image, and identity.
James suggests that lasting change occurs when we adopt new identities aligned with our desired habits.
I have tried hard to lose weight through various methods for many years. Sometimes I succeeded. However, the weight came back quickly. Now I realize that the reason I could not keep my shape is because I have focused too much on the outcome. As soon as I reached my goal, I lost my motivation to continue the workout and diet. I should think about what is identity change I would like to have. Maybe become a healthy and pretty lady who looks younger than her age? 🙂
