Chapter 7 – Willpower Is Always on Will-Call

  1. Will power is a renewable energy. It goes down as time of the day passes. Break and eat to refuel it.
  2. You will have to best use it on the things that matter the most.
  3. When willpower is lower, people tends to pick the default/safe/less rewarding decision or route when judgement is needed.

Things that cost more willpower

  • Implementing new behaviors
  • Filtering distractions
  • Resisting temptation
  • Suppressing emotion
  • Restraining aggression
  • Suppressing impulses
  • Taking tests
  • Trying to impress others
  • Coping with fear
  • Doing something you don’t enjoy
  • Selecting long-term over short-term rewards

Carry-away:

  1. decide what matters and reserve your willpower for it
  2. Monitor your fuel gauge. Eat right and regularly. Never let what matters most be compromised when you need willpower the most (like important customer meetings)
  3. Do what matters most first each day when you have max will power. Max will power means smart decision and max success

Chapter 8 – A Balanced Life

  1. work need long focus, don’t constantly switch on/off on the work, don’t constantly switch direction on the work. Seeking perfection on one direction.
  2. personal life needs attention on all aspects, almost like multi-tasking. Short focus, constant switching to cover them all. Don’t be perfect on one aspect, yet ignoring others. 

Chapter 9 – Big Is Bad

  • Think big
  • People who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the only ones who do.
  • Think big is not enough, Act bold
  • Don’t fear failure

Chapter 10 – The Focusing Question

“What is one thing I can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?”

  1. Great questions are the path to great answers. Asking the great question is the start of the everything
  2. The Big-Picture Question: “What’s my ONE Thing?”
  3. The Small-Focus Question: “What’s my ONE Thing right now?”
